Bapuji Youth Association (BYA) is a grassroots nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in rural Andhra Pradesh, India. Established in 1976 and based in Chittoor, BYA has been working alongside communities for decades to promote dignity, equality and sustainable development.

We work with children, women, youth, tribal and Dalit communities, rural families and other vulnerable groups, addressing the social and economic challenges that affect their well-being and opportunities.

Our work encompasses education, livelihoods, agriculture, women’s empowerment, health and hygiene, youth development, water and sanitation, environmental protection and community development. We believe in working closely with communities, strengthening their capacities and creating opportunities that enable people to become more self-reliant.

Our commitment is to stand with those who are most vulnerable and help build stronger, more inclusive and dignified communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

A just, inclusive and empowered society where every individual, especially vulnerable and disadvantaged children, women, youth and rural communities, has equal opportunities to live with dignity, fulfil their potential and build a better future.

Our Mission

To work with vulnerable and disadvantaged communities through inclusive, participatory and sustainable development initiatives that promote education, livelihoods, women’s empowerment, health, agriculture, youth development, water and sanitation, environmental protection and social well-being. We seek to strengthen people’s capacities, create opportunities and enable communities to become more self-reliant, resilient and active participants in their own development.

Meet Our Volunteer
Team members

At Bapuji Youth Association (BYA), our strength lies in a committed team of leaders, professionals and community volunteers working together to create meaningful and sustainable change. Our team combines effective governance, professional programme implementation and strong grassroots participation.

 

Board Members (7):

Our seven Board Members provide strategic leadership, governance and oversight to the organization. They guide the Association’s development, ensure accountability and support the effective implementation of its mission and programmes.

 

Staff Members (8):

Our eight staff members are responsible for the day-to-day management and implementation of BYA’s programmes. They coordinate with communities, partners and local stakeholders and ensure that activities are planned, implemented and monitored effectively. Additional staff are recruited as required according to the nature, scale and specific requirements of individual projects.

 

Volunteers (52):

BYA is supported by a network of 52 community volunteers across the district. They play an important role in strengthening our grassroots presence, connecting with communities, supporting field activities and facilitating outreach to people who need assistance.

Together, our Board, staff and volunteers work as one team—guided by commitment, accountability and respect for communities, and united in our efforts to create inclusive opportunities and improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people.

    Areas of Operation

    Bapuji Youth Association (BYA) is authorized under its governing framework to undertake its activities across India. However, our work is currently concentrated in Andhra Pradesh, where we have developed a strong grassroots presence and long-standing engagement with rural and vulnerable communities.

    Our programmes and community initiatives have been implemented across different rural areas of Andhra Pradesh, with a particular focus on disadvantaged and marginalized communities.

    BYA has also undertaken special initiatives in coastal regions, responding to the specific social, economic and livelihood needs of coastal communities. These experiences have strengthened our understanding of community-based development in diverse rural settings.
