Bapuji Youth Association (BYA) works with fishermen and fisherwomen communities to address the social, educational, health and livelihood challenges faced by families dependent on coastal livelihoods. Our interventions take an integrated approach, combining awareness, welfare support, education, health and hygiene, livelihood development and skill-building.
Education is one of the core areas of work of Bapuji Youth Association (BYA). We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to attend school, learn with confidence and build a better future, regardless of their family’s economic circumstances or where they live.
The organization conducts awareness programmes on government schemes and welfare entitlements, promotes health and hygiene among fishing communities, and supports fishermen and fisherwomen with livelihood and income-generation initiatives. Skill development, alternative livelihood opportunities and market-linkage support are also promoted to strengthen household income and economic resilience.
For children in rural and disadvantaged communities, poverty, long travel distances, lack of transportation, limited access to educational resources and gaps in academic support can become significant barriers to education. For many families, even basic educational expenses can be difficult to meet.
Special attention is given to the children of fisherfolk families through educational and welfare support, helping them remain connected to education and access opportunities for their future. Through these community-based initiatives, BYA seeks to strengthen the well-being, dignity and resilience of fisherfolk families while creating pathways towards more secure and sustainable livelihoods.
